The Fall of Starfleet
It was supposed to be the end...
But all in all, everything went as well as could be imagined. Starfleet was still standing, slowly rebuilding its forces with everything that it could. For many years afterwards, everything was going great. And then everything took a turn for the worse.... Suddenly, everything went to hell real quick. The Romulans and the Vulcans, at the same time, seemed to go insane. No one ever really knew what caused it. But the change seemed to come over night. In one fell swoop, the two races had gone mad. It started out as a madhouse at the very beginning as the fleets of both races rushed into whatever system they could get to and started attacking everything in their path. Local craft, Starfleet Ships, Freighters, Planets... nothing was safe from their attack. And to make things worse, they seemed to be bolstering their forces with ships they conquered in combat. They were spreading like wildfire and wiping entire systems clean in the process. Starfleet quickly worked to amass a counter attack, pulling in ever single ship that they had to help fight against the coming swarm as well as every ship all of their allies could muster.
The battles waged across the galaxy in epic skirmishes against small fleets of ships. Battlefronts clashing together in an explosive mass of wreckage and death. But as hard as the Defenses fought, they couldn't stem the tide of incoming enemies and quickly resources were being expended. It was a last ditch effort to pool all their remaining resources around Earth. Allied forces pulled back to defend their own home worlds, but those who had already lost their home worlds stayed to help. The final climactic battle waged for days on end as Starfleet fought for the last bastion of defense. The war was a meat grinder, with each side loosing untold thousands of lives in the devastation. The Vulcan/Romulan fleet was being ground to a stand still, and on the 5th day, the Federation ships finally defeated the last ships of the enemy fleet. Needless to say, the Federation fleet was almost nonexistent at this point; with only several of their largest ships still left operational. So it was easy to see that they were unable to defend themselves from any other attacks. And so that, as Murphy's Law would prove, meant that someone else would sweep in for the mop up. And who else would do a better job then the Borg. It was another titanic task force that was sent in, trying to wipe out the last of the human fleet in their effort to take the human home world. Many ships tried to stay, fighting the Borg until the bitter end. But the smarter captains knew that the had no chance and fled from the battle.
Within the day, Earth had fallen. The very home world of the Human race had been completely assimilated by the Borg, leaving nothing for the humans to come back to. The only ships to survive the Borg were the smallest ships, able to flee and hide the best from their pursuers. The other larger ships were hunted down and picked off as quickly as possible, being seen as too large of threats to leave behind. Larger ships would be able to band together and form a coherent fighting force. The smaller ships were not deemed worthy of the effort of being annihilated due to the fact that the Borg could walk through hundreds of these small class ships without having to worry. So now the remnants of Starfleet are scattered throughout the universe, questing for survival.
So that's where we stand now. Lost out in the darkness of space on our ships, doing any and everything that we can to keep us alive. It’s a bleak future ahead of us, but we are still hopeful. Hopeful that we might be able to piece it all back together and make something out of this. There are still many ships left of the Remnant Fleet still working for their survival out here. The Flagship of the fleet is the USS Hades, but many others are working as well.
